Plagiarism is when an author attempts to pass off someone else's work as his or her own. Duplicate publication, sometimes called
self-plagiarism, occurs when an author reuses substantial parts of his or her own published work without providing the appropriate
references. This can range from getting an identical paper published in multiple journals, to incidences, where authors add small amounts
of new data to a previous paper. Various forms of plagiarism are: |
· | Word to word copying of a full paper, | or the verbatim copying of a major portion | (> 50%), or verbatim copying within more than | one |
paper by the same author(s) without giving any reference/citation/credit to original author. |
· | Verbatim | copying | of | large | portion | (between | 20 | and | 50%) | or | verbatim | copying | within | more | than | one | paper | by | the | same | author(s) |
without giving any reference/citation/credit to original author(s). |
· | Verbatim | copying | of | individual | elements | (Paragraph(s), | Sentence(s),Illustration(s), | etc.) | resulting | in | a | significant | portion | (up | to |
20%)within a paper without giving any reference/citation/credit to original author(s). |
· | Improper paraphrasing of pages or paragraphs without giving any reference/citation/credit to original author(s). |
· | Verbatim | copying | of | a | major | portion | of | a | paper | without | clear | delineation | (e.g., | quotes | or | indents) | without | giving | any |
reference/citation/credit to original author. |
